The War on White Supremacist Terror

If you enjoyed the global corporatocracy’s original War on Islamicist Terror, you’re going to love their latest spinoff, The War on White Supremacist Terror. It’s basically just like the old War on Terror, except that this time the bad guys are all white supremacists, and Donald Trump is Osama bin Laden … unless Putin is Osama bin Laden. OK, I’m not quite sure who’s Osama bin Laden. Whatever. The point is, the Terrorists are coming!

Yes, that’s right, some racist psycho murdered a bunch of people in Texas, so it’s time to “take the gloves off” again, pass some new kind of Patriot Act, further curtail our civil liberties, and generally whip the public up into a mass hysteria over “white supremacist terrorism.”

The New York Times Editorial Board is already hard at work on that front. In a lengthy op-ed that ran last Sunday, We Have a White Nationalist Terrorist Problem,” the Board proposes that we would all be safer if the government — but presumably not the current government — could arbitrarily deem people “terrorists,” or “potential terrorists,” or “terrorist sympathizers,” regardless of whether they have any connection to any actual terrorist groups, and … well, here’s what the Editorial Board has in mind.

“The resources of the American government and its international allies would mobilize without delay. The awesome power of the state would work tirelessly to deny future terrorists access to weaponry, money and forums to spread their ideology. The movement would be infiltrated by spies and informants. Its financiers would face sanctions. Places of congregation would be surveilled. Those who gave aid or comfort to terrorists would be prosecuted.”

The Board didn’t mention the offshore gulags, wars of aggression, assassinations, torture, mass surveillance of virtually everyone, and other such features of the original War on Terror, but presumably all that kind of stuff would be included in “the awesome power of the state” that the Board would like the U.S. government to “mobilize without delay.”

And the mandarins of The New York Times were just getting started with the terrorism hysteria. The Tuesday edition was brimming with references to “white supremacy” and “domestic terrorism.” Here are some of the front page headlines … Trump is a White Supremacist Who Inspires Terrorism.” “White Terrorism Shows Parallels to Islamic State.” “The Nihilist in Chief: how our president and our mass shooters are connected to the same dark psychic forces.” “I Spent 25 Years Fighting Jihadis. White Supremacists Aren’t So Different.” “Trump, Tax Cuts, and Terrorism. And so on.

The Times was hardly alone, of course. In the wake of the El Paso and Dayton shootings, the corporate media went into overdrive, pumping out “white supremacist terrorism” mass hysteria around the clock. The Guardian took a break from smearing Jeremy Corbyn as an anti-Semite to proclaim that El Paso was Trump-inspired Terrorism.” The Sydney Morning Herald declared that the U.S. is now officially in the throes of a white nationalist terrorism crisis. The Atlantic likened Trump to Anwar al-Awlaki, and assured us that the worst is yet to come! Liberal journalists and politicians rushed onto Twitter to inform their followers that a global conspiracy of white supremacist terrorists “emboldened” or “inspired” by Donald Trump (who, remember, is a Russian secret agent) is threatening the very fabric of democracy, so it’s time to take some extraordinary measures!

Never mind that it turns out that two of the three “white supremacist terrorist” mass murderers in question (i.e., the Gilroy, El Paso, and Dayton shooters) do not appear to have been white supremacists, and that none of them were linked to any terrorist groups. We’re living in the Age of Non-Terrorist Terrorism, in which anyone can be deemed a “terrorist,” or a “suddenly self-radicalized terrorist,” regardless of whether they have any actual connection to organized terrorism.

Terrorism isn’t what used to be. Back in the day (i.e, the 1970s), there were terrorist groups like the PFLP, ANO, BSO, IRA, RAF, FARC, the Weather Underground, and so on … in other words, actual terrorist groups, committing acts of actual terrorism. More recently, there was al Qaeda and ISIS. Nowadays, however, more or less any attention-seeking sociopath with a death wish and a knock-off AR-15 (or moron with a bunch of non-exploding pipe bombs) can be deemed a bona fide “domestic terrorist,” as long as it serves the global capitalist ruling classes’ official narrative.

The official narrative of the moment is Democracy versus The Putin-Nazis (also known as The War on Populism), which I’ve been covering in these columns, satirically and more seriously, for the better part of the last three years. According to this official narrative, “democracy is under attack” by a conspiracy of Russians and neo-Nazis that magically materialized out of thin air during the Summer of 2016, right around the time Trump won the nomination. OK, the Russia part kind of sputtered out recently, so the global capitalist ruling classes and their mouthpieces in the corporate media are now going full-bore on the fascism hysteria. They’ve been doing this relentlessly since Trump won the election, alternating between the Russia hysteria and the fascism hysteria from week to week, day to day, sometimes hour to hour, depending on which one is “hot” at the moment.

These recent mass shootings have provided them with a golden opportunity, not just to flog the fascism hysteria once again, but to fold it into the terrorism hysteria which Americans have been indoctrinated with since September 11, 2001 (the objective of which indoctrination being to establish in the American psyche “the Terrorist” as the new official enemy, replacing the “Communist” official enemy that had filled this role throughout the Cold War). If you think the original War on Terror was just about oil or geopolitical hegemony, check out “leftist” political Twitter’s response to the El Paso and Dayton shootings. You’ll find, not just hysterical liberals, but “leftists” and even so-called “anarchists,” shrieking about “white supremacist terrorism.” It was the number one U.S. hashtag on Monday.

No, the original War on Terror (whatever else it was) was probably the most effective fascist psy-op in the history of fascist psy-ops. Fifteen years of relentless exposure to manufactured “terrorism” hysteria has conditioned most Americans (and most Westerners, generally), upon hearing emotional trigger words like “terrorist” and “terrorism” emanating from the mouths of politicians (or the front page of The New York Times) to immediately switch off their critical thinking, and start demanding that the authorities censor the Internet, suspend the U.S. Constitution, and fill the streets with militarized vehicles and special “anti-terror” forces with assault rifles in the “sling-ready” position. This tweet by Geraldo Rivera captures the authoritarian mindset perfectly:

“In the meantime, there must be active-shooter trained, heavily armed security personnel every place innocents are gathered.”

I’m not quite sure what “in the meantime” means. Perhaps it means until the USA, Western Europe, and the rest of the empire, can be transformed into a happy, hate-free, supranational corporate police state where there is no racism, no fascism, no terrorism, and no one ever says bad things on the Internet.

What a glorious, transhuman world that will be, like a living, breathing Benetton ad, once all the racists, terrorists, and extremists have been eliminated, or heavily medicated, or quarantined and reeducated!

Until then, the War on White Supremacist Terrorism, Domestic Terrorism, Islamicist Terrorism, Russian Terrorism, Iranian Terrorism, anti-Semitic Labour Party Terrorism, and any other type of terrorism, extremism, hate, conspiratorial thinking … oh, and Populism (I almost forgot that one), and every other type of non-conformity to global capitalist ideology, will continue until we achieve final victory! It’s coming … sooner than you probably think.

Damn, here I am, at the end of my essay, and I almost forget to call Trump a racist. He is, of course. He’s a big fat racist. I should have put that right at the top. I’m already in hot water with my fellow leftists for not doing that enough. Oh, and for the record, in case there are any other kinds of Inquisitors reading this, I also renounce Satan and all his works.

  1. I believe renouncing “Trump and all his works,” is now currently roughly the equivalent of renouncing “Satan and all his works.” I’m glad you included both of those “renouncings” – just to be safe C.J. It is strangely disorienting to find myself back in the U.S., living in a nation ready to both “pray” AND end all remaining vestiges of our own civil liberties with each new burst of bullets fired by some random nut job somewhere here in paradise. Meanwhile, two terms of Obama blowing up wedding parties and drone killing kids never drew more than a yawn and an “oh well, ho hum” from we Americans, certainly never eliciting anything resembling “prayer,” or any other discernible sign of actual empathy or human compassion. Oh, yeah, I almost forgot, given that half-a-million dead Iraqi children are “worth it,” hey, why not “more” dead Libyan kids, dead Syrian kids, dead Pakistani kids, you know dead “terrorist kids?” Of course my fellow well adjusted “normal” everyday Americans of every political stripe never notice these kinds of troubling juxtapositions within the propaganda schema. It is always so much simpler to boil it all down to “us versus them.” Only in this case, “us” IS “them.” Long live cognitive dissonance!

Thanks for a breath of sanity C.J. You’ve been missed.

  2. I try to drive in the Liberty district of Toronto. Reconditioned industrial buildings. New cheepo condos going up. Lots of whatever government agencies. A giant colony of millenials. Artists, they think. Parading about in skimpy, colourful outfits, going to trendy bars. The streets are interrupted by many stop signs. It’s slow going. But who cares? The locals ride bicycles and weave in and out of the roads and sidewalks. The place oozes ‘liberalism’. The heartland of ‘we’re progressives’.Lots of government money fuels the place. Consultants, designers. People who think they’re the cat’s meow.

In sharpest contrast, amidst the smug liberalatti, are the great many actual working people. Who are fabricating those condos, putting in sewer lines, pouring cement. All this crowd are clad in dirty workie clothes, wear those yellow vests, have clunky steel toed boots. They often try to drive trucks through. But it’s hard going because the liberal locals exercise their ‘right’ to impulsively lurch out to cross a street. Which is every 5 feet so nothing moves very fast.

The contrast between the two populations couldn’t be more sharp. The haughty liberals don’t even acknowledge the hired help. The workers glare and grind their teeth silently at the people who don’t know a screwdriver from a hammer. Parasites versus worker bees.

And there’s a third resident crowd. The homeless. Attracted to the casual affluance of Liberty. The City of Toronto busily puts up shelters and such for them. They tend to sit in clumps and watch the action. It’s plain they view the progressive air heads with distain. They can take a lot of hits. The poofballs freak out if they break a nail. At least the streetfolks have some kind of dignity. The liberals go getting their hair done and going to yoga places.

Guess who shouts about ‘racism’, ‘sexism’, denounces the local Trumperie, shakes their feeble fists and takes selfies? In a heartbeat the bums and the boyos would love to beat some liberal sense into the people who are all for the austerity that oppresses them, who spout Russia crap nobody cares about, who always want more, more, more government rules, laws that do nothing but make lfe harder and deliver less to everybody but the liberals.

How long before the showdown? Who would you bet on?

  3. The Guardian published an article yesterday, claiming that Putin was responsible for the Salisbury poisonings; the Skripal scandal. Hidden in the middle of the article, Neil Basu, the police officer in charge of the investigation, with hundreds of officers and access to unlimited resources and any experts, is quoted admitting that there is no evidence of Putin’s involvement. The way the quote is presented makes it sound like Putin was involved but Basu after more than eighteen months of investigation just can’t prove it. When such nonsense passes for serious journalism, why should it surprise anyone that non-terrorists are labelled terrorists? For corporate faux journalists, having a dictionary is obviously a liability rather than an essential tool of the trade.

    1. An empty drum makes the loudest noise. It’s a weak hand they play when the Der Sturmer bloviators have this push this as their Party Line. Secretly, in private, many roll their eyes in shame. No real people cheer them. They are silent and drift away. Only the paid hacks bellow forth. And that is seen, observed.

Those who ridicule and denounce the OfficialSmears are ever louder, more numerous and articulate. The shift of the tide of opinion in this fabrication – as in all the Russia lies – takes hold. Notice how the candidates for the U.S. Democratic Presidential nomination have fallen mostly silent on their party’s central meme for the past few years.

The UK Borisov Tories are up to their necks in other distracting troubles. When they go down, who will be left as cheerleaders for the Skripalosers? The backlash, the whirlwind awaiteth. Regular folks pissed off at what liberaldom dishes out will turn in fury upon the ratfinks that did and try to spin this crap.

May they live in fear that Prime Minister Corbyn would lauch a Royal Commission into the affair headed by George Galloway.

  4. The next time you go to the cinema, watch the previews – they’ll be about 10 of them – every preview is of a movie which shows us violence is a means to end all conflicts … in glorious detail. In the one or two exceptions to the rule, you’ll see a confessional of past violence as a means to end all conflicts. Those are the ones nominated for Oscars. The next time you check our national military budget, you’ll see the same thing. I mean the former, not the latter. Canada is vastly more “white” than the US and yet they don’t seem to have this problem to nearly the same degree. Do we have a mental health issue here? You betcha. But anyone who talks about an antidote, kind’a like Tulsi and her ending of regime change wars, either falls on deaf ears or is smeared into oblivion. That is the vat of kool-aid we’re guzzling from on a daily basis. With that framing the narrative, it’s hard to really understand what is meant by “white supremacy”. What was taking out Saddam all about? Since no WMDs were found. What was taking out Muammar Gaddafi and laughing like an insane child about it all about? What was all the chatter about taking out Maduro all about? White supremacy or just putting brown people in their place? (Six feet under). Meanwhile, Assange, Manning and Snowden are either in prison or might as well be. Three of the whitest motherfuckers you’ve ever seen. Ok, so Assange isn’t our white motherfucker, he’s someone else’s, but the fact is – that motherfucker’s white and in the land of white supremacy – white motherfuckers get a pass. Don’t they? Statistics of mass shootings since the beginning of 2019 show us everyone is in on the act. And that even white people are under represented in the shooting gallery. We all have guns, we’re all targets and our national credo is “violence as a means to end all conflicts.” These are the results. Call it social isolationism, call it the break down of the family, community, education and the high cost of kids collecting baseball cards today, call it income inequality, call it the mistrust and destruction of our institutions, the media included, or let’s simplify the whole mess and call it “white supremacy”. It went on under Obama, it continues under Trump, and it will continue under the doddering fool Biden and his authoritarian VP Kamala Harris if it comes to that. Thanks for reading.

  5. It’s a slightly estranging feeling, to review the memories from two marriages, later meetings with schoolmates, attempts to be part of a good number of online “communities” and dialogue with the other participants, behaviours of neighbours and people living in the same condo, the unbearable play of consciousness unconsciousness and subconsciousness, denial and enforcement, that supports fuels defends the pecking order in “organisations” — the way the “peers” will turn against you once you fail to rub well enough the leaders’ egos and they tell the “community” you are the rotten apple which the “community” ‘s basket could be spoiled by… how similar it is when in a hive or ant colony a standard bee or ant fails to be hypnotised like the others and live for the interest of who rules…
How similar, despite the dimensions of the neuron number gap between the species.

… just everything, and face the fact that organizations such as The Guardian, The New York Times, The Atlantic (assuming they can be considered distinct from each other and not one single body) not only are what “people” thoroughly deserve, but might be better than what else people would need (thus make exist and have power) if they weren’t there.

What should The Guardian, the NYT, the Atlantic, and all the others (i.e.: who owns the media platforms) do with people: tell them “truth”?
Well, try to tell the “truth” to your girlfriend, wife, mother-in-law, neighbours, same-sex friends, work colleagues and work seniors: start from tomorrow, and report what it does for you.
Do also do it on “dissident forums” online: see how they’ll welcome you.

  6. You make some excellent points. It seemed to me that before Trump, white violence (for example the Oklahoma City bombing) was sort of hushed up or condoned in some way, maybe because of connections to some part of the “Deep State.” Now since Trump, it is obvious that if something happens to the Donald, there will be a lot of white violence, so it is necessary to demonize Trump’s supporters so the state can take away their means to resist. The White Nationalist Terrorist idea is perfect for this. It’s very discouraging, because it will affect everyone one way or the other.

On another subject, it seems like a while since you have posted, although when I checked It has only been a month. Anyway, I hope that maybe you are busy writing another novel. I really enjoyed Zone 23 and hope that there is more to come.

  7. Some on the Left have failed to note the Macbeth / White Supremacy / Spanish-American War / Oklahoma Bombing Connection. But really, all that’s necessary is to make modest use of internet and then connect the dots. Ask yourself: Macbeth, King of the Scots (1005~1057): what’s his name in Gaelic? ‘Mac Bheatha mac Fhionnlaoich’ (or Fhionnlaigh). The is silent and so words three and four end up in English as the surname ‘McKinley’. You have probably never thought of Shakespeare’s character as ‘Macbeth McKinley’ before, but that’s not so important. What’s important is what ‘mac Fhionnlaoich’ means. ‘Son of the blond warrior’! (mac + fionn –> fhionn + laoch –> laoich ) And aside from ‘Macbeth’, how has ‘Mac Bheatha’ come to be Anglicised? As ‘McVeigh’! You do the math.
